KiwiCo Review

This was my first summer with three kids and I knew I was going to need some help entertaining my two older ones(3 and 6). I decided to purchase a variety of subscription boxes. KiwiCo was one of my top choices. This KiwiCo review will briefly cover all of their boxes but focus on Koala and Kiwi Crates. After reading don’t forget to take advantage of $10 off your first box!

KiwiCo offers 7 different subscription box lines. For ages 0 and up.

I can honestly say these crates have be a favorite in our household. My kids get so excited whenever they get a new box. We are on month three and definitely plan to continue. I will have to cut back on some boxes due to time and money with school starting but this will be one we keep for sure! The website is very easy to navigate and they include the name of your upcoming box which is nice so you have some idea of what might be coming. They also have a store where you can purchase awesome projects and past boxes.

First I will start with the Koala Crate. This box is for my 3 yr old daughter. Her first box was all about Rainbows. I was surprised with the amount of activities! The instructions are very detailed and some of the best I have seen with any box. They include a messiness and grownup involvement indicator. Which I find awesome because if I am holding my little one I need to know which one is best to start with. First we did a stained glass picture. My daughter needed a little help getting the tissue paper on but it was fairly easy for her and looks beautiful in her window. Next she made a rainbow out of felt stickers and placed in a cloud pillow that she stuffed herself. She was able to do this one all on her own. We decided to hang it over her bed so she can look at it while going to sleep. Her last project was a tote bag. We placed tissue paper squares on a bag and then wet it. After drying the bag was tie dyed all different colors.

The box also contains an imagine magazine that follows the theme of the box. It has a cute story, explained how rainbows are made, seek and find page, tips on making rainbows, and a do it yourself on making rainbow crayons.

Our second Koala crate was all about bugs. This box required very little involvement from me (which with a 9 month old can be a life saver). She made quick work of the box(with help from her brother). Her first project was to make antennas on a headband and add felt pieces to a bug cape. I love projects like this because she is very independent and it allows her to feel very accomplished. Next we made a lady bug pouch. The box came with a bug eye viewer which she put in her pouch to go outside and look for bugs. It also came with a really cute bug matching game. This second box did not disappoint!

Now on to the Kiwi crate. This box is for my 6 yr old son. His first box was all about arcades. He built an arcade claw. It was extremely easy to follow the directions and he was able to do most of it on his own. Next we made little Pom-pom prizes. At first I wasn’t sure how they would turn out but again the instructions were amazing and they turned out perfectly adorable.

The Kiwi crate comes with an explore magazine. This one had an arcade story, additional arcade games you can play with a penny, information all about arcades, pin ball maze, and best of all a section on building your own arcade. We immediately went to work on a Claw machine. We used the Kiwi crate box and it included decorations on cut out and add to the box. I had to do most of this and he enjoyed grabbing things with his claw while I finished.

When I read what my son’s next box was going to be I knew he was going to love it! It was all about secret agents. This box didn’t take a lot of time to complete but the fun is in him using what came in the box and getting to pretend he is a secret agent. First we constructed his brief case and put in all his secret files, spy glasses, invisible ink pen and markers that were included. Next we made a periscope. He was fascinated with this one! He immediately got to work sneaking up on his sister.

These crates start out at 16.95 a month for 12 months or if you want to pay month by month they are 19.95. I 100% think they are worth the cost. The boxes include quality materials and so much beyond just the projects included. The magazines and online diy ideas add hours and hours of extended learning and play.
