Best homemade playdough recipe

I have tried a lot of different recipes and this one is definitely my favorite.  This recipe makes the best homemade playdough that is so soft, easy to make and cheap!

My kids absolutely LOVE playdough. I used to buy playdough all the time, and even ifthe kids were careful about keeping it closed up it would dry out quickly. I decided to make my own instead, and I am so glad I did! In less than 5 minutes your kids can start creating away with theirnew playdough. It is also a perfect addition to goody bags at birthday parties.

The Best Homemade Playdough Recipe

What you need:

2 cups all-purpose flour

¾ cup salt

4 teaspoons cream of tartar

2 cups lukewarm water

2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil

Food coloring (gel or liquid)

Zipper bags

In a large pot mix the flour, salt and cream of tartar. Stir in the water and vegetable oil. If you are only making one color it is easiest to add the food coloring now. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly. The dough will become thick and start to form into a ball. Remove from heat and place the dough on wax paper or a large plate. Allow it to cool slightly and knead until smooth. If you are making several different colors separate the dough into smaller balls. Place each ball in a bag and add the food coloring. Knead the dough until the color is mixed in. I like to mix the color in by hand so wearing gloves is also a great option if you want to save your hands from being turned different colors. Once the colors are mixed in you are all ready to play! Enjoy!

I store the playdough in the zipper bags used for mixing in colors. Despite my kids leaving them out on occasion it stays soft and last several months.

This looks like a great recipe and now that dinner is finally on is, I’m going to add it to my list of things to try! We’ve done salt dough, but never play dog and I’m not sure why!

I have always wanted to try making my own Play-doh for my kindergarten students. This looks so easy! The pictures will come in really handy for when I attempt it myself this summer! Thanks! ~ Maureen
